Tournament was a very first basketball event of this kind & our plan is to make it very traditional. In order to expand an interest for basketball among girls, from 2012. this tournament will be organized twice a year: Last weekend in September (or first weekend in October), anouncing a beginning of a brand new basketball season & early May, as final closing basketball season event for the girls in Region Nord.
So, this year, we had 28 girls involved. Tournament was a "pilot-project", as a part of Jenteprosjektet activites in NBBF – Region Nord.
Taking in a deep consideration all previous "happenings" (actualy, absence of activites, till 01.12.2010.) & present situation, establishing & organizing this tournament was a "bulls-eye" hit.
Having in mind brand new positive activities in Bardu BBK (geographical location of Setermoen, as well, which is approx. same driving distance to Tromsø, Narvik & Harstad), this year, organization was given to this Club, in order to help them rise an interest for a basketball, rise a number of players (especialy, girls) & keep heading up. Bardu BKK were very good host & everybody enjoyed being there.
For hosting this tournament next year, NBBF – Region: Nord will arrange a set of some basic standards, for all Clubs interesting to host this tournament next year, in order to make it much bigger & much better. Also, application dead-line date will be anounced for all interested hosts.
Games were "liberated" of any tactical or "winning-loosing" goals. All gilrs were showing a lot of interest, on their own, to perform their very best. And they did it, completely. Last game decided about the first winner of "1° NORD JENTER CUP 2011". Narvik BBK & Tromsø Storm Ungdom played a tie game all 40 minutes, giving a lot of excitement to girls from Bardu BBK & Griffen BBK. At the end, Narvik BBK were better, they deserved to win & took home a title: First winners of "1° NORD JENTER CUP 2011".

In order to cut-out any performing in order to be the best individual (or to reduce kind of selfishness between the girls) on this tournament, best 3 performing girls from each team (best scorer, best "3 Pts." scorer & best free throw scorer) were awarded with some modest gifts from NBBF – Region Nord (basketball eqipment: basketball reversible jerseys, basketball pants, basketball socks). Package with the contributing gifts from NBBF, sent by Hanne Sogn ("Jenteprosjektet" T-shirts & books "Eat Smart"), unfortunately, "thanks" to Posten, didn’t arrived on time. Those gifts will be sent to all participating girls, later on. Also, all participating girls were awarded with medals from NBBF – Region Nord (gold, silver, bronze for 3rd place & bronze for 4th place).
Beside games, additional happening was a "Basketball Clinic" fro all 28 particpating girls & their present parents. Clinic was held by:
- BERIT LEKSTEIN (guest - former professional female basketball player from Estonia): "How I become inloved & involved with basketball?"
- ANNELISE DANIELSEN (parent of one girl from "Tromsø Storm Ungdom"): "IMPORTANCE & BENEFITS OF PARENTS INVOLVEMENT IN BASKETBALL"
- NENAD MUSIKIC (Activity Consultant in NBBF – Region: Nord): "WHY YES & HOW HARD … BASKETBALL – WHY HARD & HOW YES … basketball?

At the end of tournament, all girls promised to come next year & bring with them, at least, one brand new girl. And that’s the goal to reach:
To have next year, not less than 56 playing girls on "2° NORD JENTER CUP 2012".
